How Much Cord do I need to Record my Blind?

How Much Cord do I need to Record my Blind?

Things you need
       -Tape measure
  1.  Measure the Height of the Blind.
  2. Measure the Width of the Blind.
  3. Measure how far down you want the cords to hang down when the Blind is down in the window.
  4. Count how many Cords go down through the slats.
Example:
  1. The Height is 2 metres (2000mm)
  2. The Width is 1 metres (1000mm)
  3. I want them to Hang Down from the top by 0.5 metres (500mm)
  4. There are 2 cords going through the slats
The way you work it out is:
  • (HEIGHT + WIDTH + HANG DOWN) x The number of cords through the blind
  • (2+1+0.5) x 2
  • 3.5 x 2
  • =7
So for that example you would need to buy 7 metres of cord to record that blind.

So your Luxaflex Duette blind has ended up on an angle when you pull it up to the top. It is very simple fix.

Step 1. Pull the blind up
  • Pull the blind up to the top
Step 2. Undo Equaliser
  • To undo the equaliser - hold the outside of the equaliser and pull the cord downwards which will slide the inner piece out.
  • Take out any knots or twists in the cord while lowering the blind slowly

Step 3. Straightening cords
  • Pull on the cords one by one and level the bottom rail just off the window sill.
  • And hold all the cords about 100mm down from the cord-lock.
  • Put the outer piece of the equaliser just above where you are holding the cords and then slide the inner piece up from the bottom.
Step 4. Finishing touches
  • Pull the blind up and down to make sure the blind is working correctly.
Congratulations you have fixed your own blind!

Leveling your Venetian blind

So your Venetian blind has ended up on an angle when you pull it up to the top. It is very simple fix.

Step 1. Let the Blind down
  • Drop the blind down and make sure the bottom rail is all the way down and its level
Step 2. Straightening cords
  • Pull on the cords one by one above the equaliser to make sure there is no slack cord in the head rail
  • And hold all the cord tort being careful to not pull the bottom rail up and out of being level feed the cords through the equalizer which will keep the cords level
Step 3. Finishing touches
  • Now that the cord is through the equaliser, undo the knot in the cord tassel at the bottom of the cords and then straighten them and tie another knot in them to help keep the cords when pulling the Venetian up not slipping through the equaliser over time.

How to tell what is the diameter of my cord?

How to tell what diameter cord you have!

  1. Grab your cord, a Pencil and Ruler
  2. Wrap the cord around that pencil 10 times tightly
  3. Squeeze the cord together
  4. Grab that ruler and measure width of the cord
  5. Divide the width by 10 and will by the Diameter of your cord
Eg: If the 10 loops measures 14mm. 14 Divide by 10 =1.4mm
The diameter is 1.4mm

What is it? Cord or String

Luxaflex Slimline Venetian Cord 1.4mm thick
Blind Repair has a couple of different thickness of string that you can use to restring your blinds and shades. A question that often gets asks is “What is the difference between string and cord?” To answer this questions, let’s look at a the definitions of the terms we are working with.
Cord is defined as a long, thin flexible string or rope made from several twisted strands. String is defined as material consisting of threads of cotton, hemp, or other material twisted together to form a thin length. Semantically speaking, “string” has an inferred meaning of something thinner and smaller, while “cord” often refers to something thicker and more substantial. Here at Blind repair, we’ve also heard this material referred to as rope, thread, line and twine. But, looking at the definitions of those words shows that they are made up of a length of material that is created when braiding or twisting strands together, just like string and cord.
The bottom line: For blinds and shades, string and cord are the same thing. And whatever you call it, Blind Repair has it!

Getting to know the names of the parts of a Roller Blind

Picture
  1. Chain Control & Pin End - These Parts come in 2 Sizes 40mm & 45mm, with 4 Colour options in each size. The Colours are Black, White, Cream (Sandstone) and Grey.

  2. Roller Brackets - There is two Brackets one is called the Control end bracket and the other one is the Pin end bracket.  They come as a Pair in 4 Colours. The Colours are Black, White, Cream (Sandstone) and Grey.

   3. Roller Blind Bracket End Caps - These end caps are only used when the blind isn't fitted on the inside of the window frame. They are to cover up the Brackets and make them look nice.

   4. Tube - The tube comes in a lot forms but fit those same 2 sizes of Chain Controls. The reason there are a lot of different forms of the tube is to do with the width of the blind and how heavy the material to stop the from bending in the middle and making the fabric 'V-ing'. Where the fabric starts getting wavy in a shape of a V.

   9.   Chain - The Chain has 2 types Continuous Loop Chain (Where it doesn't have a joiner) and Chain that needs a            Joiner (as it comes off 500 meter long roll) All these Chains come in 4 Colours. The Colours are Black, White, Cream (Sandstone) and Grey.
